Whale Bay lies between the south-east end of Coronation Island and the north-west end of Matthews Island (the latter in the Robertson Islands group), all in the South Orkney Islands in the British Antarctic Territory. It is to the west of The Divide.
The bay was charted in 1912 by Sørlle who applied the name Hvalbugten (meaning 'Whale Bay') to a feature of undefined extent between the south coast of Coronation Island and the Robertson Islands. Following survey by Discovery Investigations in 1933, the name 'Whale Bay' was restricted to the present feature. The bay was further surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Signy in 1956-58.
