Twynholm is a village and parish in Kirkcudbrightshire. It is located two miles north-north west of Kirkcudbright and four miles east of Gatehouse of Fleet on the main A75 trunk road. Surrounding parishes are Balmaghie to the north, Tongland to the east, Kirkcudbright to the south-east, Borgue to the south-west and Girthon to the west.
The etymology of the name is uncertain. It may be from the British twyn (a bank or hillock) and the Saxon hame meaning home,[1] or be of Scots derivation and mean "between the river banks".[2]
Former Formula One racing driver David Coulthard is from Twynholm.[3][4]
There are a variety of listed buildings in the vicinity including the parish church[5] and the ruins of the 16th century Cumstoun Castle.[6]
