Toward Point
Toward Point is a headland marking the southernmost point of the eastern arm of the Cowal peninsula of Argyllshire. It projects into the Firth of Clyde where the Kyles of Bute open into the Firth.
On the point stands the Toward Point Lighthouse. Here too is the village of Toward and six miles to the north is Dunoon. There has been a lighthouse here since 1812.
Toward Point marks the extreme south-westerly point of the Highland Boundary Fault as it crosses the mainland of Great Britain. The Fault does not run through Toward Point, but about a thousand yards to the west: it can be located on the Toward shore by the presence of Serpentinite and the sudden change from younger sedimentary rocks to much older metamorphic rocks, notably Psammite.
