Tickell Head

Tickell Head is the east entrance point of Bridger Bay in the north-west of Coronation Island amongst the South Orkney Islands in the British Antarctic Territory.

This headland was charted by Discovery Investigations in 1933. It was surveyed by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Signy in 1956-58, and named after Dr William Lancelot Noyes Tickell (b. 1930), Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey meteorological observer at Signy 1955-56, and Base Leader 1956-57, who took part in the survey and made the first ascent of Mount Nivea; also he was the Leader and ornithologist of the South Georgia Biological Expeditions in 1958-64, and organized privately in the first season and subsequently as part of the United States Antarctic Research Program, in co-operation with the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey / the British Antarctic Survey.
