River Lyvennet

The River Lyvennet is a small but historically fascinating river flowing through the green heart of Westmorland. The river rises in on Crosby Ravensworth Fell in an area rich in ancient remains. Thence it tumbles down the dale first as the Lyvennet Beck, and in its lower course enters the broad Eden Valley and runs parallel with the River Eden until joining it near Temple Sowerby.

The Lyvennet appears to preserve a name found in the poems of Taliesin, who wrote in praise of the sixth century King Urien of Rheged and his court of Llwyfenydd. (Read more)
