Ring of GullionThe Ring of Gullion in the south of County Armagh is a unique geological formation, unparalleled elsewhere in the British Isles; a vast ring dyke containing several rugged hills, or 'drumlins' in a ring around Slieve Gullion, Amagh's county top. The ring of drumlins is roughly 26 miles by 11 miles and encompasses some 60 square miles of land. These hills bear a rich variety of plants and wildlife habitats; heath, bog and woodland contrast and within the ring are neatly patterned fields and ladder farms more familiar in Ulster. It is also an area of much ancient history and of the legends attached to the landscape. (Read more) |
