Plymouth

Plymouth is Devon's largest town and the major regional centre. It stands between the mouths of the rivers Plym to the east and Tamar to the west, where they join Plymouth Sound. It has been the site a major naval port, in what came to be known as Devonport, since the days of Queen Elizabeth I.

Today's Plymouth is made up of "The Three Towns"; Plymouth (or Sutton), Devonport and East Stonehouse between the two. The old part of Plymouth, known as The Barbican, is between the Plym and Plymouth Hoe, built around Sutton Harbour. (Read more)
