Ewloe CastleEwloe Castle is a native Welsh castle near Ewloe in Flintshire. The castle was one of the last fortifications to be built by the sovereign Princes of Wales, and was abandoned at the beginning of Edward I's final campaign in 1277. On taking the castle, the English Crown gave it little military value and allowed the castle to fall into ruin. The Princes of Gwynedd sited Ewloe on high ground within their lands in North East Wales known as Perfeddwlad, looking down upon the road from Chester. (Read more) |
