DroghedaDrogheda is an industrial and port town on the west coast of Ireland, close to the mouth of the River Boyne. Overspreading both banks of the river, the town is in County Louth north of the river and in Meath south of it. This is the last bridging point on the River Boyne before it enters the Irish Sea. Drogheda was an important mediæval town, a fortress of the Pale and the site of several sitting of the Parliament of Ireland. It has been an important port town. Today Drogheda's economy has diversified from its traditional industries, into retail, services and technology. The town also has a community of independent artists and musicians who have been looking to the local economy rather than Dublin for employment. (Read more) |
