Chesil Beach

Chesil Beach in Dorset is a remarkable shingle bank eighteen miles long on the south coast of Dorset stretching out in a smooth line from West Bay, Bridport to the Isle of Portland, trapping behind it a shallow lagoon known as the Fleet.

This is one of three major shingle structures in Britain. Its name is from the Old English ceosel, meaning "gravel" or "shingle". (Read more)
