Brentford

Brentford is a suburban town in Middlesex where the River Brent enters the River Thames.

New Brentford is the county town of Middlesex as the place where elections of the county's two Members of Parliament took place before the Reform Act. The most famous county election here was in 1769, a lively affair in which John Wilkes was elected, though the House of Commons rejected him.

Brentford became a working dock town when the Grand Union Canal was built, joining the Thames here. In latter years the middle of Brentford has been transformed into an upmarket suburban town. (Read more)
