Black IsleThe Black Isle is a peninsula on the North Sea coast of the Highlands divided between the interlaced counties of Cromarty and Ross: Cromartyshire holds the head of the peninsula at the wee town of Cromarty and much of its northern parts, while Ross-shire has the rest apart from a detached part of Nairnshire by the head of the Cromarty Firth. This is a broad, flat land projecting into the firth, rich in grazing land and crops, in utter contrast to the wild mountain country dominating both counties inland. (Read more) |
