Local Government

Teelin is a village in County Donegal, standing near Slieve League, at the north-west end of Donegal Bay. Its population is reckoned to be between 250 and 300.

This is officially a Gaeltacht village whose Irish name is the one 'official' name of the place. Unlike many in the official Gaeltacht, Teelin is actually an Irish-speaking community, and has been the subject of many linguistic studies.

The village is noted for fishing, scuba diving, and traditional music. It has a fine deep harbour and boat launching facilities with safe mooring.

Culture

In Teelin is an Irish language college, Coláiste Aoidh Mhic Bhricne, which attracts teenagers from across the province of Ulster. The college has been open in its current existence since 1955.

The folklorist Seán Ó hEochaidh was from Teelin.
