Tailors' Hall stands on Back Lane, off Christchurch Street in Dublin, County Dublin, close to Christchurch Cathedral on the south side of the city. As the name of the road suggests, it is on a back lane, behind the High Street.
This was once the hall of the Guild of Merchant Tailors, serving that purpose from 1706 to 1841, and it is the only remaining guildhall in Dublin. Today Tailors' Hall is the national headquarters of An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland.
History
Taylor's Hall was completed in 1706 and was the guildhall of the Guild of Merchant Taylors for 135 years, until 1841.
The hall has figured in many historical Irish events. The 'Back Lane Parliament' met here form December 1792: a gathering of Roman Catholic delegates from much of Ireland to petition the King for relief or Roman Catholics. Such characters as Wolfe Tone, Daniel O'Connell and many more have passed the portals of Tailor's Hall.
