Sussex Diamond Way
The Sussex Diamond Way is a walking route sixty miles long through the heart of Sussex from west to east. It starts in Midhurst in the west of the county and finishes in Heathfield, taking in a gently undulating route in the Low Weald, passing through farmland, heath and woodland, with many pretty villages on the way.
The route was devised in 1995 by the Sussex Ramblers as a sixty-mile walk to mark the club's 60th anniversary in that year: their diamond jubilee, hence the name chosen.
The route
The route heads almost directly from west to east through the very middle of the county.
After starting in Midhurst, the route passes through Lodsworth and Tillington before coming to the little market town of Petworth.
After passing through Petworth, the route carries on eastwards to Bedham. It crosses the Roman road here, Stane Street and on to Brooks Green. After Brooks Green, the route continues east towards Bolney before heading north-east to Cuckfield.
After Cuckfield, the route caries on to the east, through Lindfield, Furner’s Green and Five Ashes, before its last few miles to Heathfield.
The route is waymarked in both directions, by a circular brown sign with a yellow border and featuring a blue diamond in the centre.
