The Stockland Hills Transmitting Station stands in the middle of the ridge (50°48’26"N, 3°6’18"W or ST222014) at 771 feet above sea level. It was built in 1961 by the Independent Broadcasting Authority to transmit ITV 405-line television.

Colour television came to the site in 1971.[1] Channel Four started up in November 1982. Digital television was first introduced at this site in 1998, and analogue signas ceased at the Digital Switchover in May 2009. Stockland Hill was the second transmitter in the West Country to have its analogue television transmissions shut off.
