South Hayling is a village on Hayling Island in Hampshire, about five miles from the mainland town of Havant. In 2020 it had an estimated population of 15,948.
This is a minor seaside town. It has grown with the island: in 1931 the parish had a population of 3,254.[1]
History
South Hayling was formerly called Southwood[2] suggesting the island was once heavily wooded, the disappearance of the woodland may be the reason the name was replaced with "South Hayling".[3]
