The Small Isles are a group of uninhabited islands east of Jura in the Inner Hebrides and in Argyllshire. From south to north, the five islands are:
- Eilean nan Gabhar ('Island of the Goats'),
- Eilean nan Coinein ('Island of the Rabbits'),
- Eilean Diomhain ('Idle Island'),
- Pladda and
- Eilean Bhride ('Bridget's Island')[1]
Eilean nan Coinein lies a mile and a quarter from Craighouse.
These wee isles have been the cause of shipwrecks: The 40-foot sloop Agnes was wrecked at the Small Isles in December 1858;[2] and the 52-foot sloop Thistle was wrecked here on the 1 February 1864. The crew of the Thistle were saved.[3]
