Shillay is an uninhabited island which lies a mile north of Pabbay in the Outer Hebrides. It is within the Sound of Harris, and is part of Inverness-shire.
The name of the island is from the Old Norse sel-ey, meaning seal island, which is as appropriate today as in the Viking Age, The island is now is a Scottish Wildlife Trust reserve owing to its international importance for breeding grey seals.
There is no record or evidence that Shillay has ever seen human habitation.
