Sandy Hill is a village or resdential district on Anguilla, by the island's sountern shore, and one of the fourteen administrative Districts of Anguilla. Its population at the 2001 census was 557,[1] though the population as of 2012 was reckoned at 1,018.
On the shoreline here once stood a fortress, known as The Old Fort, which was the last redoubt held by when the French overran Anguilla in 1796, and from which the British garrison and colonists sallied forth to victory in the Battle of Anguilla, after which the French were driven from the island.[2]
