Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes
Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes is a stretch of beach and natural coastal sand-dunes reaching inland on the North Sea coast of the South Riding of Lindsey in Lincolnshire. Most of the area is preserved as a nature reserve of 2,350 acres which, for its importance, has been enrolled as a 'national nature reserve'.
The reserve is in the parishes of Saltfleetby and Theddlethorpe. It is managed in part by Natural England and in part by the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. It consists of 1,377 acres of sand dunes, salt marsh, sand and mudflats. It is reached down the Rimac Road: Rimac is a hamlet on the coast here.
The reserve is one of only a handful of locations in the United Kingdom where the natterjack toad (Bufo calamita) can be found.[1] In summer, many species of orchids can be seen on the dunes and dune slacks.
The six-spot burnet moth is found here, and it is a habit also for cuckoos and barn owls.
A large part of the reserve, close to the car park, is wheelchair-friendly.
