The range extends from McCallum Pass in the north to Cape Alexandra in the south. It was roughly mapped as part of Graham Land by the French Antarctic Expedition of 1903-05. It was partly surveyed from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from Stonington Island in 1948 and partly photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition, 1957,
The highest peak in the range is Mount Barré, in the north of the range.
The range was named in 2006 after HRH The Princess Anne, Princess Royal.
