Pine Cay is an 800 acre privately owned island occupied by 36 homeowners and a small exclusive resort, The Meridian Club. It is part of the Caicos Islands group in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Pine Cay was the site of the first tourist development on the Turks and Caicos. It was planned in the 1950s. The Meridian Club was established in the early 1970s and today consists of 13 beachfront hotel rooms, a restaurant, clubhouse and bar. There is also a small spa.
Pine Cay is less than a mile wide and two miles, though 9 miles of trails traverse the island. Island transportation is by electric golf cart and bicycle. The main beach is 2 miles long. There is an airstrip that accommodates small private aircraft.
The island is unusual in that it has 7 freshwater lakes. Some of the lakes are reputed to be populated with saltwater fish originally deposited there by a massive hurricane, Hurricane Donna, which struck the cay in 1960. This is a rare sight; sea fish in landlocked lakes surviving in fresh water.
