Pecora Escarpment

Pecora Escarpment is an escarpment amongst the Pensacola Mountains, in Queen Elizabeth Land in the British Antarctic Territory.

The escarpment rises to 5,560 feet above sea level to the south-west of the Patuxent Ice Stream, forming the southernmost main rock feature in the British Antarctic Territory, and comprising from north to south:

This feature was surveyed from the ground by the United States Geological Survey in the 1961-62 season, and photographed from the air by the United States Navy in 1964. It is named after William Thomas Pecora (1913-72), Director of the United States Geological Survey, 1965-71, who pioneered the use of satellite imagery for mapping.
