Parkgate is a small village in Dumfriesshire. The village centre is just to the east of the A701, eight miles north of Dumfries and a few miles east of the Forest of Ae.[1]
The Water of Ae flows down from the forest to the south of Parkgate (the A701 bridging it at the little hamlet of Ae Bridgend).
About the village
The village is within the Parish of Kirkmichael, and Kirkmichael Church stands about a mile to the west. Services continue to be held in the Church, albeit not every week.
Parkgate formerly had a Post Office and an inn, the Ae Inn, both of which are now closed.
Immediately to the south-east of the village is the former Barony College, now Barony Campus.
There is a small primary school a mile to the east of the village.[2]
The village is home to two main businesses: Clark Engineering, an engineering business focused on the forestry sector, and James Glen, Motor Engineers.
