New Plymouth

New Plymouth is a sheltered harbour at the western end of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, part of the British Antarctic Territory. At the western end of the island is a broad bay lies between Cape Sheffield and Start Point; the shelter of the harbour formed by Rugged Island to the south-west, Astor Island to south, and Ray Promontory to the north-east.

The harbour was charted by nineteenth-century sealers; named by the British sailors 'New-Plymouth' or 'New Plymouth' (appearing as each on charts, after Plymouth in Devon. Another name on 19th century charts is 'Ragged Harbour' in association with Rugged Island. The Fildes chart using the name 'Ragged Harbour' comments "which is by far the most just name for it".

American charts also used 'President's Harbor'.

The feature was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition of 1956-57.
