Murlough Bay

Murlough Bay is a beautiful bay on the wild northern coast of County Antrim. It is known for its outstanding beauty and remote location, with views across the ocean to Rathlin Island and to Argyllshire, to the Mull of Kintyre, Islay and various other Hebridean islands.

The local geology is typical of the Antrim topography with basalt overlaying sandstone and limestone. The area has many kilns used in the production of lime.

Casement

Roger Casement, the Irish nationalist politician, hoped to be buried on Murlough Bay. He was not in a position to choose his burial though after he was executed for treason during the First World War (having led agents of Imperial Germany with a cargo of guns to try to launch an uprising) and he was in fact buried in Dublin, though each August nationalists descend on the bay to hold a small memorial.
