Longney is a village on the River Severn in Gloucestershire, five miles south-west of the county town, Gloucester.
The name 'Longney' is an Anglo-Saxon name meaning 'long island'.[1]
The population of the Longney and Epney parish was recorded as just 285 in 2011.
There are two roads into the village one of which is called Longney Road leading to Elmore and Hardwicke, the other leads to Epney. Many of the houses were built in conjunction with the Gloucester and Sharpness Canal from the local brick works. Thatching for the houses was from the reed beds at Frampton-on-Severn.[2]

The church dates from the 13th century and has a 14th century tower. It has been designated as a Grade I listed building.[4]
The ecclesiastical parish is part of the benefice of Hardwicke and Elmore with Longney which is part of the Diocese of Gloucester.[5]
