Camster Loch

The Loch of Camster is a small loch in Caithness, and one of the headwaters from which the Achairn Burn runs. It is to be found in the boggy ground beside the inland road between Watten to the north and Lybster to the south, and which runs through a landscape littered with ancient barrows, earthworks and at least one broch.

The loch sits at about 400 feet above sea level, between the Hill of Toftgunn and Ballharn Hill: the same area feeds also another main tributary of Wick River, the Camster Burn, and also the Strath Burn.

The Grey Cairns of Camster are close by the loch, just across the road.
