Llyn Nantlle Uchaf
Llyn Nantlle Uchaf (which means "Upper Nantlle Lake") is a lake in the Nantlle Valley of Snowdonia, in Caernarfonshire. The River Llyfni emerges from the lake, and it is fed by the Drws-y-coed and other streams. It is a modest lake in size and the scenery surrounding it varies from the sublimely beautiful to the grim industrial, while the lake itself is known for its fine appearance and setting.
The lake sits by the road between Rhyd-Ddu and Penygroes, west of Snowdon, which is a dominant bulk on the skyline. The village of Nantlle and its slate quarries are beside the lake.
The lake forms the foreground in Richard Wilson's painting "Snowdon from Llyn Nantlle".[1]
There was once a Lower Nantlle Lake; Llyn Nantlle Isaf. This lake however is no longer to be found as it was drained to protect the slate works here.[2]
