Lemaire Island forms the north side of Paradise Harbour, a bay on the Danco Coast on the west side of Graham Land in the British Antarctic Territory.
The island was roughly charted by the Belgian Antarctic Expedition on 10 and 11 February 1898. They named it île Lemaire, after Captain C. Lemaire (from whom the Lemaire Channel is also named).
The island was further charted by the British Antarctic Expedition of 1920-22. It was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition and surveyed from the ground by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey from "Danco Island" in 1956-58.
