| Information | |
Lamington Viaduct is a Victorian railway viaduct which crosses the River Clyde by Lamington in Lanarkshire. It was built in 1848, and spans the river in a long diagonal, supported on sandstone pillars, low to the water.
The design and position of the viaduct have caused structural problems. A report in 2016 found that the track had deformed because of a number of factors: the pillars were given inadequate foundations, and the position at a bend in the river cause the water to scour the riverbed, underlining the central pillar.[1][2]
