Kincardine Castle, Perthshire
Kincardine Castle is a 19th-century manor house south of near Auchterarder in Perthshire, and of the 14th century castle here whose remains stand in on the estate, a few hundred yards to the south.
The Ruthven Water, a tributary of the River Earn, is still a modest stream as it enters the Kincardine Castle estate in a steep-sided, wooded dale. Overlooking this narrow valley stands the old castle and then downstream of it today's Georgian mansion.
The House
Kincardine Castle, the house, lies a mile southwest of Auchterarader, on the Ruthven Water. It is a Gothic-style house, built in 1801–1803. Today it is a Category B listed building.[1]
The old castle
The old Kincardine Castle stands also on the Ruthven Water a little south of the Georgian house. It is a ruin. It was built with a strong keep in the 14th century. The keep, already then ruinous, was demolished in 1645 and little remains today beyond its rectangular foundations.
