Horton is a village in Northumberland about two miles west of Blyth, and south of the River Blyth.
The place-name Horton is a common one in Britain, deriving from the Old English horu tun, meaning 'dirt / muddy estate', presumably meaning 'farm on muddy soil'.[1]

The church is dedicated to St Mary the Virgin.[2]
