Hornby is a village in the Allertonshire wapentake of the North Riding of Yorkshire. It is not to be confused with Hornby in Richmondshire.
The village lies on a minor road between Great Smeaton and Appleton Wiske. It lies roughly nine miles from Northallerton, the same distance from Darlington, and seven miles from Yarm.
The civil parish originates as the township of the ancient parish of Great Smeaton. According to the 2001 census, it had a population of 206,[2] which increased in the 2011 census to 238.[1] The village has very few amenities. There is a small church, a telephone box and a post box.
The village pub is called the "Grange Arms".
