Higher Bockhampton is a tiny hamlet in Dorset, a mile to the north-east of Stinsford, in the south of the county.
This place is famed as the birthplace of Thomas Hardy, the poet and novelist, and his birthplace, by the name 'Thomas Hardy's Cottage' is preserved as a museum in the care of National Trust.
