High Wych is a village in Hertfordshire. It lies two miles south west of the town of Sawbridgeworth. It is also about five miles from Harlow but its quiet countryside manner is in utter contrast to the uncompromising concrete modernism of the latter.
The parish of High Wych includes Great Pennys, Trimms Green, Sacombs Ash, Allens Green, Chandlers, Carters, Rook End, Hoskins and Sayes Park.[1]
Parish Church
High Wych became a separate parish in 1861, breaking from Sawbridgeworth.
The parish church is St James, a church of the late 19th century church. The church has a marble reredos[1] and a Father Willis organ.[2]
By the church is a Church of England primary school.[3] Both church and school used for the annual arts festival.
Around the village
A moated site is all that remains of the mediæval residence of Mathams.[1]
The Manor of Groves Hotel occupies a large estate in the village: an example of a Country Club type hotel.
