Hersilia Cove is a cove 700 yards wide indenting for 900 yards the north-east end of Rugged Island (a small island off New Plymouth, a bay of Livingston Island), amongst the South Shetland Islands in the British Antarctic Territory. At the eastern edge of the cove is Herring Point.
History
The cove was charted by Captain J.P. Sheffield (form whom Cape Sheffield is named) and is named after his ship, the brig Hersilia from Stonington, which visited the South Shetland Islands in 1819-20 and 1820-21, and used this cove for anchorage. The Hersilia is the first American sealer known to have visited the South Shetlands.
