Heiton is a linear village of about sixty houses in Roxburghshire, which is to be found some two miles south of Kelso, on the A698 Jedburgh Road.
The River Teviot flows a little to the west of Heiton and across it is Roxburgh village, though with no bridge here other than a disused railway viaduct, the Roxburgh Viaduct, the two are unlinked by road: the closest bridges are those at Kelso to the north and the Kalemouth Suspension Bridge two miles to the south. A footbridge has however been attached to the viaduct, providing a delightful walking route.
