Hallington is a tiny village in rural Northumberland, along the minor road that runs south to join the A68 (the Roman Dere Street) three miles to the south (and which a few miles further south meets Hadrian's Wall).
Just to the west of Hallington is Hallington Reservoir, and through the village runs a manmade stream, the Whittledean Watercourse, bringing water from the reservoir south as part of a chain of reservoirs from Catcleugh Reservoir to Whittle Dean, to supply Northumberland's major city, Newcastle upon Tyne.
