Half Morton church, now a private residence

Half Morton is a parish in Dumfriesshire adjacent to the border with Cumberland, six miles north-west from Longtown. This place derives its name from its having formed part of the ancient parish of Morton, of which, on its suppression in the early part of the 17th century, one-half was merged in the parish of Canonbie, and the other, named Half Morton. The only approximation to a village is the small hamlet of Chapelknowe, in which the church is situated. Adjacent parishes clockwise from the north are Middlebie, Canonbie, Kirkandrews (in Cumberland), Gretna and Kirkpatrick-Fleming.
