The Gunnerkeld Stone Circle is to be found on the moorland near the Shap Summit, the highest point of the M6 motorway as it slices through the Pennines, in Westmorland.

The circle is to the north-east of the village of Shap, just a few yards from the motorway, on the slope of Hardendale Fell.

This is an impressive site, though on private land with no open access: it can be reached with permission from the minor road from Little Strickland to Castlehowe, through Gunnerwell Farm.

The monument consists of two concentric circles, the inner one in better condition. Two large stones to the north might have been entrance portals, and there is a very large stone to the south-south-west.

The inner ring is approximately 20 yards in diameter, and is more complete than the outer ring which measures 30 yards in diameter.[1]
