The Glenshesk River

Glenshesk is one of the nine Glens of Antrim in County Antrim. The glen lies on the eastern side of Knocklayd mountain and flows out to the sea at Ballycastle. Like the other glens, it was shaped during the Ice Age by glaciers. The neighbouring glen, to the west is Glentaisie, the last of the nine glens, from which it is separated by Knocklayd. The two meet at the sea at Ballycastle.

The name of the glen is from the Irish language: Gleann Seisce, meaning "the Sedgy Glen". At the foot of the glen is the ruins of the Friary of Bunamargy built in 1485. A number of battles occurred in the valleys of the glen and a number of standing stones mark the burial places of people killed in battle.
