Loch Trool in Glen Trool

Glen Trool is a glen carved by the Water of Trool through the Galloway Hills in northern Kirkcudbrightshire.

Lying in the head of the glen is Loch Trool, which is fed by several burns off the hills, and the loch is drained by the Water of Trool.

North of Glen Trool is Merrick, the highest mountain in Kirkcudbrightshire and in all the Southern Uplands. The glen has a visitors centre and campsite.

In April 1307, the glen was the site of the Battle of Glen Trool, a minor engagement at which Robert Bruce drove back a small force under Aymer de Valence.
