The Gibraltar North Mole Elbow Lighthouse is one of a series of light beacons at the mouth of Gibraltar Harbour. It stands at the elbow of the North Mole of the harbour, a position known as "E" Head, hence the light's alternative name, the Gibraltar "E" Head Lighthouse. It was operated by the Gibraltar Port Authority, but is now deactivated.
Description
The light stands at the elbow of the L-shaped North Mole of Gibraltar Harbour, known as the "E" Head.
The tower is a square, skeletal tower, painted grey, with a height of 82 feet.[1] The skeletal tower has a round harbour control room, watch room, and gallery platform. The light was emitted from a skeletal extension of the main tower which has been installed adjacent to the control room. When operational its light characteristic was a fixed red light, with a range of five nautical miles, and a focal plane of 92 feet.
