Information |
The Gartrenich Bridge is a footbridge over the River Forth in Perthshire, built to replace a railway bridge which crossed the river at this point, and incorporating on each bank the abutments of the old bridge.
The railway bridge, known locally as the Gartrench Bridge but also as the Forth Viaduct, carried the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway: it was a single track, large single girder viaduct. This original bridge was demolished after the line was closed in 1959.
The tracks of the Strathendrick and Aberfoyle Railway have been lifted and the track-bed has been reopened as a footpath, providing a pleasant walking route between Aberfoyle and Buchlyvie. The new footbridge to carry the path opened in 2007.
