Frating is a village and small parish in the Tendring hundred of Essex. It is about five miles east of Colchester and ten miels north-west of Clacton-on-Sea. The parish includes the settlements of Frating Green and Hockley.

The parish church (dedication not recorded) is now a private house. The living was a rectory shared with Thorrington.

Great Bentley rail station is two miles away and provides regular train services to Colchester, Walton-on-the-Naze, London Liverpool Street and Clacton-on-Sea. Bus services also operate to Colchester and Clacton.
