Ewell Minnis is a small and rather pretty village near Dover in Kent.
The name of the village is from the Old English Æwelm, meaning "source of a river" and gemænnes, which usually means "fellowship" but which in particular Kentish usage meant an area of common land (giving the early modern Kentish word 'mennys'); hence "spring common land".
The source of the River Dour lies between Ewell Minnis and Temple Ewell, which source gives both villages the name.
