Evish is a small townland and rural community area in Tyrone, three miles from Strabane and seven miles from Plumbridge, in the Barony of Strabane Lower. It covers 870 acres.[1]

The name of the townland is from the Gaelic Eimhis, meaning 'coarse mountain pasture'.[2]

In 1841 the population of the townland was 193 people, in 39 houses, and in 1851 it was 199, in 43 houses.

About the townland

Within the area is Evish Primary School and Evish Cross Community Group. It includes Dergalt, visited by Amercians as the ancenstral home of President Woodrow Wilson.[3]

The townland contains one Scheduled Historic Monument: a wedge tomb (H39239678).[4]
