Data

Etna Island is an island with a high summit, lying six nautical miles north of the eastern end of Joinville Island (Fitzroy Point), off the north-eastern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula.

The island was discovered by a British expedition under James Clark Ross, 1839-1843, who named it Ætna Island (later 'Etna Island') because of its resemblance to the volcanic Mount Etna in Sicily.

The island was photographed from the air by the Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition, 1956-57
